Pola Negri in a tense scene from the lost “Flower of Night” (1925) directed by Paul Bern for Paramount..  This tale of love and revenge in Old California was written as a prestige picture for Miss Negri by acclaimed author Joseph Hergensheimer.  Pola plays a Spanish nobleman’s daughter who falls in disgrace after losing the family gold mine.  Her haircut was described as “freakish” and the picture turned out be one of her worst-reviewed.  One movie magazine said:  “‘Flower of Night’ does not bloom…it wilts.”
