And now, down to the nitty-gritty! At No. 2. is a true favorite of mine, Pola Negri in “The Cheat” (1923). Isn’t the epitome of what a silent movie star should look like: exotic, beautiful and dressed to kill? This is one of her most photogenic portraits. I like it so much that I made it the cover of my soon to be published bio of her: A CREATURE OF FLAME AND DESIRE. This is Pola as I like to remember her.
Incidentally, the fan she is holding, according to publicity, was made of ostrich feathers and cost a lordly $10K to make. Imagine what that costs in today’s dollars!
