Here’s a cartoon done of Pola Negri in 1922 just as she was beginning to make a big impression in movie magazines.  I think it captures her allure perfectly. I dig the kohl rings around her eyes and the untamed hair.  This is the look of a woman that illustrators Charles Addams and Edward Gorey would have loved.  There is one major error, however, in the cartoon’s captions–not sure if you can read it–calling her a”Viennese” film star.  As everyone knows, Miss Negri was definitely Polish.
